Quick Start Brief

This Quick Start Brief is designed to offer the critical information you need to start taking advantage of the Summerland Alerts right away.

  • By leveraging the information contained in this site, you agree to the Terms of Use.
  • You agree that alerts are for educational purposes and are designed to find potential opportunities in specified equities. They aren’t to be construed as investing advice.
  • Be sure to complete the Basic Training Course as this gives fundamental knowledge and best practices needed to get the most out of membership with Summerland Associates.

How alerts work:

  • We begin our analysis of the market after the market closes.
  • Notifications are generated typically by 5pm PST for the following trading day.  For example, an alert generated on Wednesday will be for a trade that is to occur on Thursday.
  • Notifications of alerts are sent by Email. To retrieve the alerts details you must login to the Summerland Associates web site.  CRITICAL: We cannot guarantee delivery of alerts due to spam filters. We highly recommend regularly visiting our site for the latest alert information.
  • Alerts will stay open until the analysis indicates a profit taking or loss controlling opportunity.
  • Alerts conveniently include scaling-in information if you are utilizing that risk management technique.
  • Newest alerts are indicated by this icon:
  • Open / Close Target Price is populated after the close of the market for the given alert’s trading day.  We offer this as a benchmark.  Your goal is to meet or beat this number.

Taking advantage of alerts:

  • Upon receipt of the alert, check it for its suitability.
  • If ready, set up the trade for the following day. We recommend taking steps to meet average performance of the market for that day. This may involve several trades or algo trading as defined in the Basic Training course. How you configure the trades is a function of the online broker. In any case, these trades require little supervision once set up.
  • Monitor for ongoing alerts and leverage them accordingly. If you miss an alert or fail to take advantage of an alert for the specified day, wait for the following alert before taking action. For example, if you missed the opening 10% scaling-in alert and a new 20% scaling-in alert has been generated, one great option is to combine both and scale-in with 30%.
  • Monitor for profit taking alerts and take profits aggressively.  If you have a position that’s open but it is not shown in the Active Alerts, you may have missed the profit taking alert.  Avoid this at all costs as profits can quickly turn to losses.
