John A. Larsen, Managing Director and Chief Analyst

John Larsen

John has been working in and around financial services for more than 20 years. His career began in banking where, among under things, he managed the bank’s overnight investments with the Federal Reserve.

Later, his consulting business helped Union Bank of San Diego launch the first self-managed 401(k) program of its kind. John worked with the then nation’s leading middle-market Merger & Acquisition firm The Geneva Companies helping them refine and enhance their outreach activities to business owners. Clients also included MFS as well as several regional credit unions.

While Series 7, 63, and Insurance licensed, John worked for a major national brokerage. He enjoyed helping customers manage and protect their substantial portfolios but became disenchanted with the pressure to sell customers financial products they didn’t need.  After a lot of soul-searching, John left the firm.

Over the last 10 years John has written and published articles privately for a network of more than 500 financial service firms. During this time he refined his investment theories into a series of practical methods that were utilized by a private investment fund. These techniques accurately called the stock market meltdown of 2008 and helped the fund’s investors shield their assets from the greatest risk.  John exclusively owns the underlying methodologies and has been free to continue to develop them. They now drive the Summerland Alerts System.
